It was a dramatic moment on Friday as residents of Lagos Island and traders of the famous Idumota market voiced their displeasure with President Bola Tinubu by yelling in Yoruba, “Ebi npa wa oo,” which translates to “we are hungry.”
As the president’s convoy passed through the always busy market, the traders lined up on both sides of the road and refused to hail the president as the usual practice. Instead, they continued to discuss their suffering, which they believed was brought on by the government.
Underneath the complaining voices in the video, residents were heard saying the presidency had known the plans of the people which was the reason for the heavy security. However, the alleged initial plan was not made known.
President Tinubu is in Lagos to celebrate both Christmas and New Year.
