Lakurawa kill 13, raze seven villages in Kebbi

In what is believed to be a reprisal attack following the death of their leader, Maigemu, suspected Lakurawa terrorists launched an assault on Birnin Dede village in Kebbi State on Sunday, March 9, k!lling 13 people.

Sources told Channels Television that the attackers also set fire to at least eight villages surrounding Birnin Dede, all located within the Arewa Local Government Area. It is understood that the assault was in retaliation for the k!lling of Maigemu by a combined security force in the area.

One source, speaking via telephone, stated that only one village was spared, as it was guarded by the Army. “We seek protection from Allah against this dreaded group,” the source added.

The Chairman of Arewa Local Government, Sani Aliyu, confirmed the attack to Channels Television. This follows a recent operation by security forces, supported by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, that resulted in the death of Maigemu, the Lakurawa group’s leader. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to tackle the activities of armed groups in the North-West region.
