In order to improve the supply of electricity in Nigeria, the Federal Government signed an accelerated performance agreement with German Chancellor, Olaf Scholzqq.
This agreement was finalised on the fringes of the COP28 climate summit and was signed by Siemens Energy’s senior vice president and managing director for Africa, Nadja Haakansson, and managing director of FGN Power Company, Kenny Anuwe.
The PPI, formerly known as the Nigeria Electrification Roadmap Initiative, was signed by the governments of Nigeria and Germany in 2019 with the goal of improving the power sector.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by the president’s special adviser Ajuri Ngelale, Kenny Anuwe claimed that since the project’s inception, Siemens Energy has given Nigeria vital equipment valued at over 63 million euros.
He said, “FGN Power Company is currently installing these equipment at various sites across Nigeria. They include 10 units of 132/33KV mobile substations, 3 units of 75/100MVA transformers, and 7 units of 60/66MVA transformers.
“The project will also focus on identified load demand centres with a particular emphasis on economic and industrial hubs nationwide; execution of new 330kV and 132/33KV substations in target load centres with economic priority, in addition to thousands of kilometres of overhead transmission lines to connect new substations with existing ones.
“At the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the agreement will also guarantee project sustainability and maintenance with complete technology transfer and training for Nigerian engineers,” he added.
He continued by saying that the project will cover the complete supply, delivery, and installation of Siemens-manufactured equipment within a timeline of 18 to 24 months, ensuring the modernization and expansion of Nigeria’s electric power transmission grid from end to end.
